JACKSONVILLE, FL, Oct. 28, 2026 —

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office released a video Tuesday evening showing its Vice Unit serving emergency warrants in animal cruelty cases and working with Animal Care and Protective Services to bring neglected dogs to safety.

"It's not just people we're protecting. When someone is abusing an animal, we won't stop until that pet is protected," the agency posted on X with the video. It said the footage is "real footage from our Vice Unit, serving emergency warrants after receiving information about animal cruelty cases across Jacksonville."

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office video of Vice Unit detectives and Animal Care and Protective Services officers rescuing dogs, released Oct. 27, 2026. Video: Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (@JSOPIO).

What the video shows

In the video, Sgt. Guy Daniels of the Vice Unit describes dogs that "have been left outside" in crates for days. "You're just seeing ribs," he says. "We've had dogs that we've had to cut the chains off of them," he says, adding that some had to have chains surgically removed.

Daniels says Animal Care and Protective Services calls on detectives when a case becomes an emergency. "This dog is literally on death's bed, and we need you guys," he says, describing those calls. "It becomes a criminal thing."

Once the dogs are out, "They get them to a vet immediately," Daniels says of the animal care officers. "And when we get there, these dogs are not violent," he says. The video ends with Daniels describing the look on a rescued dog's face: "the dog's like, 'Thank you.'"

In its post, the Sheriff's Office said it works "closely with our partners at @JaxACPS to get the abused animals to safety," and that seeing the animals' conditions "motivates our detectives to work even hard to hold the humans responsible."

The agency didn't say in the post how many animals have been rescued or how many cases have led to charges. Launchpad Digital has asked the Sheriff's Office for those figures and will update this story if it responds.

How to report suspected animal cruelty

The Sheriff's Office asks anyone who suspects animal cruelty to call 904-630-0500. "We take every tip about animal cruelty seriously," the agency said.
