MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Oct. 25, 2026 — The University of Miami football team is 7-0 after the top-ranked Hurricanes won 52-23 over Pittsburgh on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium.[1]
The Hurricanes are also 5-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Pitt fell to 5-3, and 2-3 in the ACC.[1]
Miami held the No. 1 spot in the AP Top 25 poll released Sunday, Oct. 25, the only team in the poll to keep the same ranking as the week before.[4]
A day for history
The game doubled as a celebration of Miami's 2001 national championship team. According to the university's athletics site, the current Hurricanes wore "throwback uniforms that matched those worn by the Hurricanes' 2001 national championship team." Former players including Ed Reed, Clinton Portis, Jeremy Shockey and Andre Johnson were in attendance.[1]
"They inspired so many future Hurricanes that ended up coming here to the University of Miami," head coach Mario Cristobal said. "Glad to be able to honor them as well, with a victory."[1]
Toney's record afternoon
Sophomore wide receiver Malachi Toney, a Miami native, caught 16 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns.[1] The 16 catches set a new Miami record for a single game. The record he broke was his own: 13 catches, also against Pittsburgh, last season.[1] Toney also passed 2,000 receiving yards for his Hurricanes career.[1]
At halftime, Toney had 159 receiving yards, the same as Pitt's entire offense.[1]
"We push one another extremely to our max, past the max to be honest," Toney said of quarterback Darian Mensah.[1]
Mensah stays sharp
Mensah, who leads the nation in completion percentage according to the university, completed 31 of 37 passes for 387 yards and four touchdowns.[1]
"The dude works his butt off day in and day out," Mensah said of Toney. "So come Saturday, he's always prepared."[1]
Other milestones
- Running back Mark Fletcher Jr. scored on a 2-yard run early in the third quarter. It was the 33rd rushing touchdown of his career, which moved him into second place on Miami's all-time list. He needs three more to pass Stephen McGuire for the school record.[1]
- Freshman Javian Mallory scored on a 16-yard run and a 19-yard catch. Freshman Gavin Mueller scored the first touchdown of his Miami career just before halftime, after a fumble forced by freshman JJ Dunnigan.[1]
- Miami's defense held Pittsburgh to 69 rushing yards.[1]
How it unfolded
Miami opened the scoring with a 40-yard field goal by Jake Weinberg, then led 17-0 early in the second quarter. The Hurricanes were up 31-7 at halftime.[1] The official line score from Pitt Athletics shows Miami scoring 10, 21, 14 and 7 points by quarter, and Pitt scoring 0, 7, 7 and 9.[2]
What's next
Miami plays on the road at North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. It then travels to Notre Dame on Nov. 7.[3] The Hurricanes return to Hard Rock Stadium on Nov. 14 for their homecoming game against Duke.[3]
Cristobal said there is still work to do: "There's a lot of pluses and then there's some minuses in there we've got to clean up."[1]
