Florida law orders a recount when unofficial returns show a candidate lost by one-half of a percent or less of the votes cast for the office, under s. 102.141(7), Florida Statutes. By Launchpad's math from the state's current unofficial totals, District 27's margin is about 0.45% of votes cast and District 9's is about 0.52%. Counties' unofficial returns, due by noon Nov. 7, decide whether any recount is ordered, and a losing candidate can ask in writing not to have one.

Percentages are from the state's unofficial results.
Counting the four uncalled races where Republicans lead, Republicans have won or lead in 20 of Florida's 28 seats, and Democrats have won or lead in 8.
Why it matters
Nationally, AP projected that Democrats won control of the U.S. House, so Florida's close races won't decide the majority. They'll decide how big it is. AP's House tally at 7:53 a.m. showed Democrats with 228 seats won and Republicans with 139, with 68 races still to be called; 218 is a majority.
Several called Republican seats were also close: Aaron Bean won District 4 by 6,343 votes (50.22% to 48.11%), and Scott Franklin won District 18 with 50.35%.
What's next
Counties' canvassing boards finish reviewing provisional and mail ballots this week. Unofficial results are due by noon Nov. 7, any recounts follow, and the state certifies Nov. 16. AP will call the remaining races when it determines a winner.
