Updated Oct. 26, 2026: police announced an arrest.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Oct. 26, 2026 —
Tallahassee police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with Saturday night's shooting near Florida A&M University. The Tallahassee Police Department says detectives arrested the teen on Sunday, Oct. 25, and he faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and a charge of possession of a firearm by a delinquent. Police announced the arrest at a Monday morning news conference, WCTV reported, and NBC 6 South Florida also reported the charges.
Police say none of the victims appear to have been the intended targets, and detectives believe the shooting grew out of a dispute between people who knew each other. TPD says this remains an open and active investigation, and more arrests are possible.
Launchpad Digital does not name juveniles accused of crimes. Charges are accusations, and anyone charged is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
What happened
TPD says at least 12 people were injured, 11 of them by gunfire, just before 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, near Perry and Manatee streets. Six of the injured are adults and six are juveniles.
The area sits next to FAMU's Bragg Memorial Stadium, and the shooting happened during the university's homecoming weekend, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.
What else police have said
- At least three victims had serious injuries and nine were in stable condition as of late Saturday, according to TPD's first release.
- As of Sunday, no deaths had been reported.
- Early findings indicate a physical altercation happened before the shooting. TPD's Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.
- Detectives worked overnight reviewing digital evidence and were canvassing the area Sunday to identify those responsible.
Police Chief Lawrence Revell said officers carried victims to safety and to the hospital before the scene was fully secure. "We know there are people who saw something, heard something or may have video that could help us piece together exactly what happened," he said in TPD's Sunday update. "No detail is too small."
How to help
TPD says anyone with information, photos or video can:
- Call the Perry Street shooting hotline at 850-891-4610.
- Stay anonymous by calling Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.
- Share photos, video or other digital evidence through the secure submission link TPD has activated, listed on the department's release.
This is an active investigation, and police say the information is preliminary and may change.
