MIAMI, FL, Oct. 28, 2026 —

Coastal flooding will stay a problem along South Florida's East Coast for the rest of the work week, the National Weather Service in Miami said Wednesday afternoon.

"Gusty, yet waning, winds will keep hazardous marine and beach conditions in place through tomorrow. Coastal flooding will also continue to be a concern through the rest of the work week along the East Coast of South Florida," the office posted at 3:50 p.m. (@NWSMiami).

Coastal flooding

According to the forecast office's graphics:

  • A Coastal Flood Warning was in effect for possible major coastal flooding along the East Coast through Wednesday evening.
  • A Coastal Flood Advisory covers moderate coastal flooding along the East Coast from Wednesday evening through at least Thursday evening.
  • A Coastal Flood Statement covers minor coastal flooding along the Gulf Coast through Thursday evening.

The highest water is expected from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. each day through the weekend on the East Coast, and from 1:30 to 4:30 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. on the Gulf Coast, the office said. Its advice: "Do not drive, walk, or wade through saltwater flooding!"

Beaches and boating

The office listed a high risk of rip currents for Miami-Dade and Broward beaches through Wednesday evening and for the Palm Beaches through Thursday evening. A Small Craft Advisory covers the Atlantic, with northeast winds of 15 to 25 knots and seas of 5 to 8 feet, and the Gulf, with seas of 5 to 7 feet. "If in doubt, don't go out!" the office said.

Halloween weekend

In a 5 p.m. update, the office said temperatures should "trend a little warmer towards the end of the work week & into the upcoming weekend across South Florida," with isolated to scattered showers favoring Southwest Florida through Friday and "becoming more numerous this weekend for all the spooky festivities" (@NWSMiami).
