WASHINGTON, Oct. 31, 2026 — About 4,500 people remain in temporary shelters, mainly in Panama's Veraguas province, after the magnitude 7.5 earthquake that struck the Azuero and Veraguas regions on Oct. 9, the Pan American Health Organization said in its Oct. 30 natural hazards update.

PAHO cited Situation Report No. 07 from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, published Oct. 28. "Damage to housing remains one of the main impacts, with thousands of families affected and hundreds reporting total loss of their homes," the update says, with "significant ongoing humanitarian needs in Los Santos, Veraguas, Coclé and Herrera provinces."

The same update reports flooding in Haiti and Argentina's Chaco and Corrientes provinces.
